Delete Your Account and Data
You can delete your account and every recording we hold of your voice, from inside the app, in under a minute. This page explains exactly what disappears and what does not.
Pre-launch review notice
This document describes how Sign & Talk is built and operated today. It is written for learners and guardians in plain language. It is not legal advice. If you need advice about your rights, consult a qualified lawyer. Questions about this product: devesh@vinxign.com.
01
Delete it yourself, in the app
This is the fastest route and it needs nobody's approval but yours.
- Open Sign & Talk — either the Android app or the web app at app.signandtalk.com.
- Sign in, if you are not already signed in.
- Go to the Profile tab.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap "Delete my data".
- Confirm in the dialog that appears. It warns you that this cannot be undone, because it cannot.
The deletion runs immediately. You are signed out and every session on every device is revoked.
02
Or ask us by email
If you cannot get into the app — a lost phone, a Google account you no longer control, a device that will not sign in — write to devesh@vinxign.com with the subject "Delete my account".
- Write from the email address on the account if you can. If you cannot, tell us what you can about the account so we can find it.
- We will confirm we have received your request.
- We may need to check that the account is yours before deleting it. Deleting the wrong person's practice history is not a mistake that can be undone.
- We aim to acknowledge within 2 working days and to complete the deletion within 30 days (sooner when the law requires it).
03
What is removed
- Every voice recording we hold for you, in every storage location, whether or not a reviewer had listened to it.
- Your email address.
- Your display name.
- The link between your account and your Google sign-in, so the account can no longer be signed into.
- Your consent record for recording and human review.
- Every active session on every device.
The account row itself is marked deleted and stripped of the fields that identify you.
04
What remains, and why
| What stays | Why | For how long |
|---|---|---|
| Pronunciation scores and attempt records, detached from you | They no longer carry your name, email or sign-in identifier. Keeping the anonymous scores means our published accuracy statistics do not silently change every time somebody deletes an account. | Kept for aggregate quality metrics; no fixed maximum today beyond ordinary storage hygiene. |
| Payment and subscription records | Indian tax and company law requires a business to keep its accounting records. These are financial records, not practice records. | 8 financial years after the relevant transaction (Companies Act, 2013 practice we apply). |
| Consent grants and withdrawals | We have to be able to show when consent was given and when it was withdrawn. That evidence is worthless if it is deleted along with the account. | Typically up to 8 years for compliance evidence. |
| Reviewer labels attached to recordings that were reviewed before deletion | The audio itself is deleted. What may remain is a label such as "the model misheard this sound", with no audio and no link to you. | At most 24 months, aligned with reviewed-clip retention. |
| Security and audit logs | Needed to investigate abuse and to show who did what inside our own systems. | About 90 days, then deleted or aggregated. |
This table scrolls sideways on a narrow screen.
05
How long it takes
- Deleting from the app: immediate. Recordings are erased and sessions revoked as part of the request.
- Deleting by email: we act as soon as we have confirmed the account is yours. See the commitments above.
- Backups: our providers keep their own encrypted backups, which are overwritten on their own cycle. Data can persist in a backup for a short period after it is deleted from the live system (typically up to about 30 days).
06
If you do not want to delete everything
- Stop us keeping recordings, but keep practising
- Withdraw your consent to recording and human review in the app. Every recording we hold of you is deleted immediately, and no new ones are kept. You still get scores and feedback, because the analysis happens whether or not we keep the audio.
- Stop paying, but keep your history
- Cancel your subscription. Your account and practice history stay. The refund policy explains how to cancel on each platform.
- Just sign out
- Signing out ends the session on that device and changes nothing on the server.
07
After deletion
You can sign up again with the same Google account at any time. It will be a brand new account with no history, because the old one can no longer be reached.
Deleting your Sign & Talk account does not cancel a Google Play subscription. If you subscribed through the Android app, cancel it in the Play Store as well, or Google will keep billing you.
