Terms
Terms of Service
These are the rules for using Sign & Talk. We have kept them short and written them in plain English, because a document nobody can read protects nobody.
Pre-launch review notice
This document describes how Sign & Talk is built and operated today. It is written for learners and guardians in plain language. It is not legal advice. If you need advice about your rights, consult a qualified lawyer. Questions about this product: devesh@vinxign.com.
01
The agreement
By using Sign & Talk you agree to these terms. The agreement is between you and Vinxign Media Private Limited, a company registered in India. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
- Service
- The website at signandtalk.com, the web app at app.signandtalk.com, and the Android app com.vinxign.signandtalk.
- Account
- The record we hold of you, created when you sign in.
- Attempt
- One recording you make and send for analysis.
- Practice Token
- The internal unit that one analysis costs. Explained in its own section below.
- Plan
- A paid subscription (currently Pro, Pro Plus or Max), billed monthly or yearly. Live names and prices are always those shown by the Plans API and the in-app Plans screen.
02
Who may use Sign & Talk
- You must be 13 or older to hold an account. A parent or legal guardian may hold an account that a younger learner uses under their supervision, as described in the privacy policy.
- A younger learner may use the service on an account held and supervised by their parent or legal guardian, who accepts these terms on the child's behalf.
- You must be able to enter a binding contract under Indian law.
- You must not use the service if we have previously terminated your account.
03
Your account
- You sign in with Google. Keep your Google account secure, because whoever controls it controls your Sign & Talk account.
- One account is for one learner. Sharing an account means sharing a practice history, which makes the progress views meaningless.
- Tell us promptly if you think someone else is using your account.
- Your account works the same in the browser and on Android. It is the same practice history, the same plan and the same token balance either way.
04
What you may not do
- Do not upload a recording of someone who has not agreed to be recorded.
- Do not upload audio that is not a genuine practice attempt — for example music, someone else's speech, or content designed to test or confuse the model.
- Do not try to get around rate limits, token charges or plan allowances, including by scripting the API or running many accounts.
- Do not attempt to extract, copy or reconstruct our models, our lesson content or our scoring logic.
- Do not probe, scan or attack the service. If you want to report a security problem, the security page tells you how, and we would like to hear from you.
- Do not use the service to break any law, or to harass anyone.
We apply fair-use rate limits to protect the service for everyone: 30 analyses per minute and 600 per hour for a signed-in learner, and lower limits for requests made without an account. Real practice never touches these. Scripts do.
05
This is a practice aid, not medical care
Sign & Talk is not a medical device and does not diagnose anything
Sign & Talk gives you automated feedback on how a sound came out. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment, not a clinical assessment, and not a substitute for a speech-language pathologist, an audiologist or a doctor.
- Nothing the app tells you should be used to decide whether you or your child needs professional care. If you are unsure, see a qualified professional.
- If a clinician has given you a therapy plan, follow theirs. Sign & Talk is meant to sit alongside it as extra practice, not to replace it.
- The words the app uses for articulation — voicing, aspiration, place, nasality — describe what the audio measurements suggest. They are not a clinical finding.
- We do not offer therapy, and no member of our team provides clinical advice through the app.
- If a learner is in distress or has a medical emergency, contact a health professional or emergency services. Sign & Talk cannot help with that.
06
What automated scoring can and cannot do
A score comes from a machine-learning model listening to a short recording. It is an estimate, and estimates are sometimes wrong. We would rather say that here than have you discover it mid-practice.
- The model can mishear. It can mark a correct attempt as wrong, and it can accept an attempt that a human would not.
- A cheap microphone, a noisy room or a very quiet voice will make the result less reliable. When the recording is too poor to judge fairly, the app hides the detailed verdict and tells you it is a microphone problem rather than a mouth problem. That is deliberate: a confident wrong answer is worse than no answer.
- Scores are calibrated against reviewer judgements and the model version that produced each score is stored, so an old score can still be interpreted.
- A sample of attempts is reviewed by trained humans, including a forced random sample, so that our accuracy figures are not measured only on the easy cases.
- If a result is wrong, tell us from inside the app. That report moves the attempt to the front of the review queue. It is the single most useful thing you can send us.
07
Plans and what they include
Prices are in Indian rupees and include any taxes we are required to charge. Annual plans include an extra 10% off the discounted monthly price. The table below is filled from the live plan catalog at the time this page was rendered; if the API is briefly unavailable the pricing page and in-app Plans screen remain authoritative.
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly | Phoneme practice | Word practice | Sentence practice | Credits | History |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pro | $8 | $86 | Unlimited (fair-use limited) | Unlimited | Not included | 10,000 credits / month | 30 days |
| Pro Plus | $10 | $108 | Unlimited (fair-use limited) | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | 90 days |
| Max | $12 | $129 | Unlimited (fair-use limited) | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | 365 days |
This table scrolls sideways on a narrow screen.
First month free: the first time an account subscribes to a monthly plan, you pay for that month at checkout and the following month is free, so the first renewal charge falls at the end of month two. It applies once per account, only to monthly plans, and not to an account that has had any paid, sponsored, bank-transfer or clinic-gifted plan before. A refund of the first payment ends the free month too.
Practising single sounds is unlimited on every plan, including the free one, because a learner drilling one sound for an hour is exactly what this app exists to encourage. It is still subject to the fair-use rate limits above.
On a yearly plan the monthly credit refill stays monthly. You get the same monthly share twelve times over the year, not a year's worth on day one. Credits refill from your plan start date, not the calendar month.
08
Practice Tokens
Practice Tokens are a usage unit, not money
Tokens are not currency. They have no cash value, they cannot be redeemed for money, they cannot be sold, transferred or given to another account, and they are not a stored-value or prepaid payment instrument.
A token is how we measure the computing cost of one analysis. A longer recording and a more complex target cost more tokens than a single sound.
- Each paid plan comes with a monthly allocation of practice credits (tokens). Your allocation refills from your plan start date each cycle, not the calendar month.
- Credits do not roll over. At a refill the balance is set to your monthly allocation rather than added to it, so a dormant month cannot bank a year of credits.
- If you upgrade mid-cycle, your balance is raised to the new plan's allocation straight away, because someone who pays more today expects to use it today.
- If you downgrade, we do not take credits back that you already had.
- When a subscription ends, credits already in your wallet stay there, but no further monthly allocation is added.
- Every movement of every token is written to an append-only ledger you can read in the app, so "what happened to my tokens" always has an answer.
- An analysis that fails never costs you tokens. See the refund policy for exactly how that works.
09
Billing, renewal and cancellation
Where you bought it decides how you cancel it
A subscription bought inside the Android app is a Google Play subscription and can only be cancelled in Google Play. A subscription bought on the web is a Razorpay payment and is cancelled with us.
- If you subscribed through Google Play
- Google bills you and renews you automatically. To cancel, open the Play Store, go to Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, choose Sign & Talk and cancel. Cancelling in the app alone will not stop Google billing you. Your access continues until the end of the period you already paid for.
- If you subscribed on the web
- Razorpay takes the payment. To stop renewing, cancel in the app, which stops the renewal on our side and keeps your access until the end of the period you paid for. If you set up a recurring mandate, also cancel the mandate with Razorpay or your bank so no further debit is attempted.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until they are cancelled.
- We check every purchase with the payment provider itself. We never take the app's word for it that a payment happened.
- If a renewal payment fails, your plan may enter a grace period defined by the payment provider, and will end if payment is not recovered.
- When a subscription ends you return to the free tier. Unlimited single-sound practice keeps working.
- We may change prices. An existing subscription keeps its price until the end of its current period, and we will tell you before a new price applies to you.
10
Sponsored plans and activation keys
A sponsor may buy seats for learners and receive activation keys. Entering a key under Plans → Activate Sponsorship grants you the sponsored plan for the duration the sponsor paid for, at no charge to you. A key can be used once, by one account.
- By activating a key you accept that the sponsor can see your public learner id and a practice summary (attempts, sessions, scores, sounds practised) for the life of the sponsored plan, as described in the privacy policy. If you do not want that, do not activate the key; buy a plan yourself instead.
- Keys carry a region. A key that was bought in Indian rupees works only for an account in India; a key bought in US dollars works anywhere. If you are outside India and a rupee key is refused, ask the sponsor for a key bought for learners outside India. We decide your market the same way the pricing page does — from your account country, or the country your device connects from.
- Sponsored plans include exactly what the equivalent paid plan includes. When the sponsored period ends you return to the free plan unless you subscribe or activate another key.
- Keys are not transferable, cannot be exchanged for money, and are not refundable to learners. Refunds on unused keys are a matter between the sponsor and us under the refund policy.
- We may cancel a key or a sponsored plan where the key was obtained by fraud, published openly, or used in breach of these terms. We will tell you if that happens to a plan you activated.
11
Clinic access to your report
A clinic account (a doctor, therapist or school registered on the clinic portal) may ask to follow your practice. The request appears in your app inbox with a six-digit code. If you give the clinic that code, the clinic gains a standing permission to view your practice report and send you written guidance until you or the clinic end it.
- Only you can grant access; we never grant it on a clinic’s word. Sharing the code is your consent.
- You can end access at any time from the app. Ending it is immediate.
- Guidance from a clinic is the clinic’s own professional communication, not ours. We do not review it, and we are not responsible for it. Sign & Talk remains a practice aid, not medical care.
- Clinic accounts are bound by the partner terms. Report misuse to us and we will suspend the clinic.
- A clinic linked to you earns a reward from us — 10% of what you pay for a yearly plan, as points — while your link is active. You pay the same price either way, and the app shows this note next to every clinic with access.
12
Availability
We work to keep Sign & Talk available, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. We may take it down for maintenance, and parts of it depend on services we do not control. We do not currently publish a service-level agreement or an uptime commitment.
We may change, add or remove features. If we remove something you are paying for, we will tell you and you may cancel.
13
Who owns what
- Sign & Talk — the software, the lesson content, the models, the scoring logic, the name and the branding — belongs to Vinxign Media Private Limited. These terms do not transfer any of it to you.
- Your recordings and your practice history remain yours.
- By using the service you give us the permission we need to process your recordings in order to give you feedback. If you have separately consented to recording and human review, that permission also covers reviewing and labelling your recordings and using them to improve the model. That permission ends when you withdraw consent or delete your data.
- Feedback and ideas you send us may be used to improve the product without any obligation to you.
14
Ending the agreement
- You can stop at any time. Delete your data from Profile in the app, or write to us.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, attacks the service, or exposes us to legal risk. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right first.
- If we close your account for a reason that is not your fault, we will refund the unused part of a paid period.
- Sections that are meant to survive — ownership, disclaimers, liability limits and governing law — continue to apply after the agreement ends.
15
Disclaimers and limits on liability
The service is provided "as is". To the fullest extent Indian law allows, we do not give any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement.
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for lost profits, lost data or lost opportunity.
- Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, to the fullest extent permitted by Indian law (including the Indian Contract Act, 1872 and the Consumer Protection Act, 2019).
- Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
16
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India.
Subject to mandatory consumer protections, the courts at New Delhi, India, have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these terms (or, if different, the courts competent for the registered office of Vinxign Media Private Limited).
Before going to court, please write to devesh@vinxign.com. Most problems are a misunderstanding, and we would rather fix it than litigate it.
17
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The "last updated" date at the top always shows the current version. If a change materially affects your rights, we will tell you by email or inside the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Sign & Talk after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, you can cancel and delete your data.
